Carnival Cruise Line May Accept Non-Vaccinated Guests This Summer

Carnival Cruise Line intends to do things a little differently compared to the rest of the industry as everyone begins to restart their services this summer. In fact, there’s a new report that suggests Carnival might not require passengers to be vaccinated for Covid-19. Here’s what you need to know.

Carnival Cruise Line May Accept Non-Vaccinated Guests This Summer

Carnival Cruise Line President Christine Duffy made the surprising announcement in an interview with NBC Nightly News. While she certainly wants to make sure that all guests and crew will remain safe and healthy at all times during their cruises, she points out that there is no mandate that says everyone must be vaccinated before boarding any cruise line this summer.

“There is no mandate for any other business to have that requirement. We wouldn’t be able to have kids under 12 onboard,” said Duffy, standing at Port Canaveral near the Carnival Liberty, adding that she wants to make sure that everyone who wants to take a cruise this year can.

She added, “We certainly are encouraging everyone to get a vaccine, and our crew members that have … are very grateful to have that opportunity.”

As many travelers now, the cruising industry was largely shut down since March of 2020 because of the ongoing pandemic that has been the coronavirus. But earlier this month, the CDC updated its guidance to allow cruise ships to conduct trial voyages. Carnival, along with the other major cruise lines, are hoping that this travel season is certainly going to look much different than last season.

“We employ about 500,000 people in the U.S., and we’ve lost about 300,000 direct jobs at this point. We’re down about 40 percent of employees, and we have 30,000 crew members that we repatriated at the start of this who were at home waiting to come back to work,” Duffy added.
