With Disney’s All-Star Music Resort set to reopen on September 16, guests have been able to book their Walt Disney Resort stay. However, it seems there will be a delay in the reopening of the Walt Disney Resort hotel as guests with September and October reservations have been receiving notification that they will be moved to a different Disney hotel.
At the time of writing the All-Star Music resort still looks to be bookable but only from December 10th and onwards, more signs pointing to a delay in the reopening.
Little is known about why or even if there really is a delay, but a steep drop in hotel room demand and attendance in the four Walt Disney World parks could be a catalyst.
Despite Disney CEO Bob Chapek stating, “In terms of the Delta variant, we see strong demand for our parks continuing”, Walt Disney World is feeling the impact from cancellations from guests unwilling to travel after Covid cases have spiked again.
This, coinciding with the end of summer has seen hotel occupancy at Disney properties fall very short of the expectant 93% rate, reaching just 65%. A drop of about 10% per week in occupancy is occurring overall on Disney properties and non-Disney hotels in the area.
Nowhere has the drop-in guests in the parks been more noticeable (or enjoyed) than in Disney’s Hollywood Studios where, for the first time, guests could ride the extraordinarily popular Star Wars: Rise of the Resistance without being part of a pre-booked boarding group.
No word has been given in regards to any delays on the final three resorts scheduled to open- Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – Riverside on October 14, Disney’s Port Orleans Resort – French Quarter on October 28 or Disney’s All-Star Sports Resort on December 9, now scheduled a day before its sister hotel All-Star Music.
