1. Beaches of the Costa Brava
It should be noted that a number of the coastal towns on the Costa Brava have been awarded certificates, recognizing them as Family Tourism Destinations. Here we look at some of the best beaches for family-friendly fun along the craggy coastline.
– Family fun in Blanes
Families looking for somewhere to relax on the beach, while their children play under safe conditions, should consider Blanes. This former tiny fishing village features calm water, sandy beaches with excellent amenities. Even better, qualified monitors organize activities for the kids while the parents relax, tanning or reading a book.
– Platja Gran L’Estartit, Costa Brava
Platja Gran in L’Estartit shares equal awards for its family-friendly locations. It also has a kids’ club, dubbed the Mini Beach Club which is available during July and August.
In this club, children participate in various activities, teaching them interpersonal skills, as well as outdoor sports and water activities. Even better, the kids truly have loads of fun, making new friends while on vacation.
2. Water parks in Costa Brava
The main summer months of July and August can get pretty hot in this area of Spain. What better way is there to enjoy the summer than splashing around in the water? The Costa Brava has a variety of water parks to choose from, making for fun in the sun for the whole family. Here are two of the best for families.
– Aquabrava, Roses
Aquabrava is a popular water park, offering around 19 different fun attractions. Not only are there swimming pools to relax and cool down, but also dizzying water slides and artificial rivers for downhill adventure. For the little ones, safe play areas are available with mini toboggans and waterfalls. Meanwhile, lifeguards make the experience safe for the whole family.
– Water World, Lloret de Mar
Just outside the coastal town of Lloret de Mar, families can have fun at the biggest water park in Europe. Dubbed Water World, the park has attractions for all ages, including a wave pool, water slides and hot tubs. For older family members, the park even has a 131-foot, almost vertical slide for breathtaking fun. The park is open from May 22 to September 17 during the summer season.
3. Roses Express Train
There is nothing quite like a ride on a train for family fun and the Roses Express Train takes the whole family on a trip around the Bay of Roses. There are five different routes to choose from, including a journey up to the Puig Rom summit. Here, the family can enjoy spectacular views of the Alto Ampurdian and the Aiguamolls Natural Park.
Meanwhile, the Falconera route takes passengers along the bay, offering views over to the Medes Islands. While the train doesn’t run on rails, it is still a favorite option for the whole family.
