The U.K., U.S. And Canada Moving Closer To Lift Travel Restrictions

It appears as though the U.S. and Canada, along with other world leaders are doing what they can to remove the travel restrictions that have made it hard for people to cross borders ever since the global pandemic that has been COVID-19 entered our lives. Ministers of the G7, which include Canada, Germany, the U.K., the U.S., Japan, Italy and France are doing what they can to get things back to normal, or at least back to how it looked like in 2019. Many countries have kept their borders closed or have restricted non-essential travel in the hopes that they can curb the ongoing spread of COVID-19. But at the same time, the tourism industry has taken a major hit because of all the restrictions. Here’s what you need to know.

The U.K., U.S. And Canada Moving Closer To Lift Travel Restrictions

The industry lobby group, Airlines for Europe, would like to see the European Union’s approach to travel as the new worldwide standard. Many citizens of the E.U. can travel from one country to the next within the bloc as long as they can provide evidence that they are fully vaccinated.

Airlines for Europe put it this way,

“By accepting not only vaccination and recovery certificates but also COVID-19 test results, it is both fair and respectful of data privacy.”’

The Biden administration said last month that it would revoke its travel ban on visitors from 33 countries, which was implemented to quell the spread of COVID-19. However, travelers flying to the United States will be required to be fully vaccinated against the coronavirus. The policy will take effect in early November. What’s more, vaccinated travelers will also have to test negative for the virus within three days of departure. Fully vaccinated passengers will not be subject to any quarantine mandates upon their arrival.

The Centers for Disease Control also wants to require that airlines gather information from international travelers to enable contract tracing if needed. The CDC also plans to issue a contact tracing order requiring airlines to collect information from US-bound travelers, including a phone number and email address, to alert travelers of potential exposure.
