Finding yourself a piece of paradise is getting a little easier now that the gorgeous Caribbean island of Barbados has dropped their quarantine mandate for tourists…just as long as they are vaccinated.
Starting this week, entry restrictions have loosened with not only the 5 day self-isolation period now dropped, but PCR testing upon landing becoming a thing of the past for those at least two weeks out from their final Covid jab.
There will, however be “spot checks” by health officials at Barbados’ international airport- Bridgetown/Grantley Adams. Those selected at random (or who may be showing symptoms) will be required to take a free rapid antigen test inside the airport. Once the results come in, the traveler can leave the airport to their accommodation, however, they may be required to use government approved transportation only.
Unvaccinated travelers are still being welcomed into the island nation, however, in lieu of showing proof of vaccination, travelers may be required to be airport rapid tested upon arrival.
Unvaccinated travelers will then be required to travel from the airport to their pre-approved hotel by sanctioned transportation and then self-quarantine for 5 days.
After that 5 days of isolation, the tourist will take a PCR test at their expense at an approved lab or hotel that provides such services.
While awaiting the results, which will usually take a couple more days, the unvaccinated traveler must return to quarantine in the pre-approved hotel. Once cleared, the traveler can enjoy the beauty and delights of Barbados!
Prior to departing for Barbados, a PCR test taken within 72 hours is still required from every traveler 5 and older, regardless of vaccination status. Travelers will need to upload their test results via the BIMSafe App as well as asked to carry a copy of their test results with them as they travel.
Barbados has been opened to travelers from most countries since July of 2020 with non-stop flights available from multiple cities in Canada and the U.S. to Bridgetown/Grantley Adams International Airport.
With winter approaching and quarantine being removed, Barbados is preparing for a new influx of sun seeking guests.
