Disney’s CEO Bob Chapek says that Disney’s reservations system is the “backbone” of the company. By requiring every guest to have a reservation, Disney knows just how many people are in the parks on any given day. Chapek says thanks to this reservations system and by knowing the “right mix of guests in the park,” which includes passholders, resort guests, and ticketed guests, Disney can “control demand.” Here’s what you need to know.

Chapek said that Disney’s closure in 2020 due to the pandemic was an opportunity to “reconceive the guest experience and increase return to the shareholders.” He made his comments during the Goldman Sachs 30th Annual Communacopia Conference.
In addition, Chapek also opened up about Disney’s fast pass replacement for the new Genie app, calling it a “work in progress.” The new ‘Genie’ app is designed to help guests skip the line with more ease and efficacy. It is designed to help “maximize your park time, so you can have more fun,” according to the company.
Chapek put it this way, “Well, I think the benefits of it will unfold and will continue to add utilities. Genie is what Genie is when we launch it, but it will continue to become even more and more robust over time. So this is not something that you pour the concrete and it dries, and it is what it is. We learn over time. Every day is going to be a different situation, and Genie is very responsive to that. And I think we will continue to add utilities over time as we continue to learn about how to use this new utility.”
