The Art of Star Wars Galaxy’s Edge book is continuing to whet appetites as it reveals more concept art of spaces around the Halcyon ship, which guests will board for their 2 day, fully immersive space cruise.
We are also hearing ‘warnings’ from Disney Imagineer, Ann Morrow Johnson that the starcruiser’s itinerary may not always be able to stay on course. Prepare yourself for some unplanned detours.
Morrow Johnson discussed how the concept of the Halcyon Starcruiser was inspired by (but modernized from) the Tantive IV. The Tantive IV was an Alderaan cruiser, used by Princess Leia Organa on public missions for the Galactic Senate and secret ones for the Rebel Alliance.
Looks familiar, right?
You may remember the Tantive IV from Star Wars IV, A New Hope as being where Leia uploaded her famous “Help me Obi-Wan Kenobi, you’re my only hope,” hologram message into R2D2 before he and cohort, C3PO escaped in a pod.
Oh yeah, it’s also the site of Darth Vader’s massacre at the end of Rouge One: A Star Wars Story when he first boards, seeking the Death Star plans.
You can see in the concept art, the hallways run the length of the three-level cruiser and lead from the 100 guest cabins to the bow of the cruise, where all the action happens.
Now it seems Darth Vader’s grandson, Kylo Ren, may just be looking to storm the Halcyon, also. Morrow Johnson explained that despite the Halcyon having a planned itinerary, just like any other cruise you may find yourself on, guests boarding for their two day galactic adventure should prepare for a detour or two “if we find ourselves in unexpected circumstances”.
Other planets, ships, even the occasional asteroid field, will all be visible through the ship’s windows.
Those “unexpected circumstances” may just mean an encounter with the First Order so, when on board the Halcyon Galactic Starcruiser, guests should be on the lookout for Storm Troopers…and Kylo Ren, himself.
More details are coming out regularly about the Galactic Starcruiser Hotel so check back here often as we await its 2022 grand opening.
