Malta Says Children Ages 12-16 Must Be Fully Vaccinated Before Visiting

Malta has announced that children between the ages of 12 and 16 will not be allowed to visit this year until they have been fully vaccinated. The country updated its travel regulations this week and says that as of June 30th, only fully vaccinated people from the UK can visit the country. Here’s what you need to know.

Malta Says Children Ages 12-16 Must Be Fully Vaccinated Before Visiting

Visit Malta said:

“Children aged 5-11 can travel if they accompany their vaccinated parents/ legal guardian provided they provide a negative nasopharyngeal PCR test carried out within 72 hours before arrival in Malta. Children under 5 do not need a test, while those aged 12+ can only travel with a full vaccination certificate.”

Currently, only the Maltese vaccination certificate is a valid certificate accepted by the Maltese Authorities. Back in April, Malta announced that it was willing to pay tourists to come to visit their island nation this summer. Tourist Minister Clayton Bartolo said that Malta said this past week that it plans to offer visitors up to $238 if they stay at least three days on the island this summer in the hopes that they can boost tourism.

Many countries around the world have seen a significant drop in tourists because of the ongoing pandemic that has been the coronavirus. In fact, many countries in parts of Europe have seen multiple lockdowns and strict quarantine measures in the hope that they can curb Covid-19 cases. The country attracted more than 2.7 million foreign visitors in 2019 but that figure dropped dramatically by 80 percent in 2020.

But with cases going down and more and more people getting vaccinated, there’s hope that travel can slowly but surely go back to the way things were before the pandemic hit during the first quarter of 2020.

It’s also been noted that Malta also has the highest virus vaccination rate anywhere in the European Union.
