Did someone just say great cheese, great chocolate, and the most stunning views around? If so, then that means our dreams of returning to Switzerland this summer have come true as there is a new report that says the micro-European country is ready to welcome back American and Canadian visitors again. Actually, make that vaccinated American and Canadian visitors. Here’s what you need to know.

Switzerland Reopens To Vaccinated North Americans

The Swiss government has announced that it will reopen its borders to North American citizens beginning June 28th, which is just in time for the summer travel season. Because Covid-19 cases have been on the decline in Switzerland, the government says it wants to prepare for the upcoming vacation season. Back in 2019, a record number of Americans visited Switzerland but because of the pandemic in 2020, the lockdown and strict quarantine measures made quite a dent to Switzerland’s vibrant bustling industry.

In addition to North Americans, residents of the following countries can also visit Switzerland without having to quarantine:

  • Austria (except for Land Steiermark)
  • Belgium
  • Czech Republic
  • Denmark
  • Estonia
  • Finland
  • France
  • Germany
  • Greece
  • Hungary
  • Iceland
  • Italy (except Regione Lazio, Regione Liguria, Regione Marche, Regione Veneto)
  • Latvia
  • Liechtenstein
  • Lithuania
  • Luxembourg
  • Netherlands
  • Norway
  • Poland
  • Portugal
  • Slovenia
  • Spain
  • Sweden

This, of course, is great news for a lot of American travelers who have felt tired of being landlocked for the last year and a half because of all of the travel restrictions. With that said, all tourists must fill out an entry form before arriving in Switzerland. This includes arrivals by air, land borders, and sea borders, or those in transit. The completed form will generate a QR code that will be shown to border control.

And while your trip to Switzerland might look a little different compared to the last time you visited the country, at least the cheese and the chocolate will still be there.

Tell us, how you do feel about this? Are you planning any trips this summer? If so, will you be staying close to home, going on a cruise, or traveling internationally for the first time in a year?
