Thailand for a dollar? Does anyone need to hear more? There are new reports that says Thailand is not only reopening their borders for vaccinated tourists, but is also trying to lure in people with an incredible deal that if you blink, you’ll miss it. Here’s what you need to know.
Thailand Is Reopening And Luring Travelers With A Once-In-A-Lifetime Deal
According to new reports, Thailand is hoping to give its tourism industry the much needed boost it needs after it was ravaged by the Covid-19 pandemic. That might be one of the reasons why the island of Phuket is offering hotel rooms for just $1 a night and no, that is not a typo at all.
The Tourism Council of Thailand (TCT) has proposed a new ‘One Night, One Dollar’ campaign. TCT president Chamnan Srisawat said that cost discrepancies would be subsidized by the Thai government, should this campaign get approval.
“TCT also discussed the idea with major wholesalers and online travel agents to prepare for the reopening of Phuket. And they are ready to help,” he said.
If the ‘One Night, One Dollar’ promotion will work in Phuket, this same strategy might be implemented in other parts of the country such as Pattaya and Koh Samui.
“However, the current wave of COVID-19 infection could (impact the) final decision. But we have been suffering from the pandemic for 15 months now. Only mass tourism will save us,” Srisawat said.
Just last month there was a report that said almost half of hotels in Thailand are expected to close in the next several months, despite the fact that they are doing whatever they can to kick-start their tourism sector again. However, about 47 percent of hotels say that they don’t have enough cast to last them longer than three months. If that weren’t enough, Covid-19 cases are still very much a problem in the country. The capital of Bangkok has seen about 500 new cases every day since the beginning of May, with no sign of a decline.
