Universal Studios Orlando Celebrating Tokyo Olympics With New Nighttime Show

Universal Orlando Resort has announced that it will have a brand-new special presentation celebrating the Summer Olympics on NBC ahead of the Tokyo Olympics, which will officially kick off on July 23. The pre-show is five minutes long, and runs before Universal Orlando’s Cinematic Celebration all summer long. It will showcase some of the past and present Olympic stars is custom music that features elements from the event scores crafted by composer John Williams. It’s been noted that the show won’t have fireworks, but it will include choreographed fountains, lighting, and lasers.

While there have been some doubts about whether or not the Tokyo Olympics will go ahead this year, as of press time everything looks like it will be a go, despite the fact that Tokyo is in a state of emergency due to COVID-19, with polls showing that 80 percent of Tokyo’s population are against the Games. The one-year delay to this Olympics alone has cost $2.8bn, and billions more are being spent on new safety protocols.

“New coronavirus cases have been declining nationwide since mid-May, but the situation remains highly unpredictable,” Prime Minister Yoshihide Suga told reporters just this week.

With that said, the International Olympic Committee President Thomas Bach told the press time past week that athletes should “come with full confidence to Tokyo and get ready,” lauding the Japanese capital as “the best-prepared Olympic city ever.”
