Disney Cruise Line has only been sailing with paying guests for a couple of weeks now but already their face covering policy has been relaxed. But only a smidge.
When sailing began again from Cape Canaveral on August 9, the enhanced Covid safety protocols included guests being mandated to wear masks indoors at all times except for in their staterooms or while actively eating or drinking.
A new change has popped up on the Disney Cruise Line site showing that a third proviso is now in place.
The rule now shows the stateroom and eating/drinking exceptions still apply, along with “taking a photo (while stationary and maintaining an appropriate physical distance).
This is a much-welcomed change to the rules, and a ‘win’ is needed for cruise ship guests now that the Bahamas, where Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay is situated, has added their own rules to ships and their guests, which all cruise lines must adhere to when visiting the country of islands.
The emergency power will come into play from September 3 and states that all passenger cruises are required to provide a passenger manifest including vaccination statuses. To be able to enter a Bahamian port, including the lines’ private islands, all passengers age 12+ must be fully vaccinated unless they have proof of a valid medical reason as to why they cannot be.
This is expected to stay in place until at least November.
Disney, like most other US based ships are operating on a 95% of guests being vaccinated rule. The bulk of the unvaccinated 5% are children, however, teens and adults who are unvaccinated have been able to book a cruise.
Those who do not show their proof of vaccination at embark (and it is currently voluntary to do so) avoid extra Covid testings and the necessity of health insurance including Covid coverage.
No announcement has been made yet as to an amendment to Disney Cruise Line’s rules.
