Norway is Reopening Its Borders to Travellers

Norway is reopening its borders for the first time since the pandemic began in March of 2020, but there are some things you may need to keep in mind before booking your next trip to Oslo. That’s because while the country is dropping its travel restrictions, it’s still keeping it in place for Americans. Here’s what you need to know.

Here’s What You Need To Know Before Booking Your Next Trip To Norway

Norway now allows citizens from the EU, EEA, and countries on its purple list – currently New Zealand, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, and Taiwan – as well as residents of the United Kingdom and Switzerland to enter. Travelers who cannot show proof of vaccination or recovery may face additional entry requirements.

With that said, Norway’s quarantine period remains in place for arrivals from red countries, unless the traveler shows a valid EU digital coronavirus certificate. Those undergoing quarantine can test themselves out after three days using a PCR test. Hotels will remain available for those who have nowhere else to quarantine.

Children and young people under the age of 18 are exempt from entry quarantine. The entry quarantine can also be shortened for all travellers by a negative PCR test taken no earlier than three days after arrival. Furthermore, the requirement for quarantine hotels for the implementation of the quarantine is lifted,” the  Norwegian Ministry of Health and Care Services said in a statement.

Citizens of these countries can enter Norway without the obligation to quarantine anymore:

  • France
  • Iceland
  • Italy
  • Luxembourg
  • Malta
  • Monaco
  • Portugal
  • San Marino
  • Slovakia
  • the Netherlands
  • the Vatican City

Those who must quarantine include visitors from Andorra, Belgium, Bulgaria, Estonia, Greece, Ireland, Cyprus, Croatia, Latvia, Liechtenstein, Spain, Switzerland, Germany, Romania and Austria, which are placed in the red category, as well as Lithuania, Slovenia and Great Britain which are placed in the dark red category.
