Chile wants you to come and visit, but only if the proper precautions are taken. There are new reports that say Chile will reopen to international tourists beginning October 1st, but there are a few things you will have to keep in mind before your visit. Here’s what you need to know.
Chile To Re-Open To International Tourists Again This Fall
According to reports, Chile will begin welcoming foreign tourists for non-essential purposes beginning October 1, and almost 18 months after the country first closed its borders because of the ongoing pandemic that has been COVID-19.
Thankfully, due to their successful vaccination initiative, COVID-19 cases in Chile have plummeted, which has prompted government officials to reopen the country again ahead of its busy summer season. Travelers will be required to show a negative PCR COVID-19 test taken up to 72 hours before entering Chile, undergo a mandatory 5-day quarantine, have medical travel insurance, and show proof of vaccination, public health chief Paula Daza said.
In addition, Chile has set a series of mandatory requirements for inbound visitors that include:
- A “Traveler’s Affidavit” form must be completed 72 hours prior to travel.
- Mandatory travel insurance with a minimum coverage of $30,000 USD.
- A negative PCR test was taken within 72 hours of travel.
- Proof of full vaccination.
- A mandatory five-day isolation period at an address of their choice.
However, tourists cannot book their trip to Chile until their vaccination certificate was validated by the Chilean health ministry. With that said, Visitors without vaccines – including children – will only be allowed to enter under strict criteria.
The Chilean Association of Airlines (ACHILA) believes that the new strict protocols won’t help their tourism industry, though.
“Considering the high percentage of vaccinated in our country and the low level of contagion and positivity, the measures announced by the government…continue to be most restrictive…in the world,” the group said in a statement.
