Vaccinated Americans Can Now Travel To Europe This Summer

How do you say, ‘So long, pandemic,’ in French, Italian and German? Because that’s what a lot of travelers are probably thinking to themselves right now as the European Union has announced that they agree to open up to fully vaccinated Americans this summer. The last time American tourists set foot on EU soil was in March of 2020 and before the ongoing pandemic that is the coronavirus closed off borders in many parts of the world. Here’s what you need to know.

Vaccinated Americans Can Now Travel To Europe This Summer

Dust off your beret, download the latest issue of Lonely Planet (or simply follow along with us here), and make sure your passport is up to date because Americans will be flocking to Europe this summer in record numbers. That is, if you are already vaccinated. According to reports, all 27 member states of the EU agreed on Wednesday to the easing of travel restrictions for the EU, following a year of severe entry restrictions. It will be the first time US travelers will be allowed to enter the EU in 14 months, which has a lot of people very excited.
In addition, unvaccinated travelers can also avoid quarantine if they come from countries that have controlled the Covid-19 outbreak, meaning a 14-day new-case rate of less than 75 per 100,000.

With that said though, the CDC and the U.S. State Department till recommend against nonessential travel despite the CDC’s updated advice that vaccinated Americans can safely resume travel as long as it’s a low risk to them. Of course, that’s not going to stop millions of travel-hungry Americans from blowing up their Instagram accounts with post-pandemic photos from recently re-opened cafes in Paris, Milan and Berlin. For the social media world, it will definitely feel like 2019 all over again.
