Jamaica Is Open For Business – But Should You Book Your Summer Trip Now?

There’s good news and there’s bad news for those who were hoping to visit the Caribbean isle of Jamaica this summer. While the country is officially open for business, the CDC is cautioning Americans from traveling to Jamaica, or at least for the time being. Here’s what you need to now.

Jamaica Is Open For Business – But Should You Book Your Summer Trip Now?

According to reports, all travelers – regardless if you have been vaccinated or not – over the age of 12 must present a negative Covid-19 PCR or antigen test result in order to check-in for a flight to Jamaica. The test must be taken at least three days before your scheduled flight. What’s more, travelers looking to go to Jamaica will need to gain travel authorization, which requires them to submit personal, health and intended stay in Jamaica information. If that weren’t enough, guests must also save an electronic or printed copy of their travel authorization to show to their airline at check-in or upon boarding their flight.

CDC recommendations

Sounds easy enough, right? While the Jamaican government is looking for you to visit so you can spend your-hard earned dollars to help boost their local tourism industry, the CDC is telling you to hold up.  Earlier this month, the CDC issued a level four advisory for Jamaica, the highest level for COVID-19 cases.

Because of the current situation on the island, even fully vaccinated travelers might be at risk for getting or possibly spreading Covid-19. The CDC also says that if you absolutely must go to Jamaica, you are better off getting fully vaccinated first.

With that said though, Jamaica has carefully developed an extensive suite of measures to ensure the highest levels of health safety for visitors, tourism workers and local communities. In other words, the country will do its best to keep guests safe at all times. Visitors staying at approved accommodation within the resilient corridor can freely enjoy the many comforts of their stay, and to visit approved Covid-19 protocol compliant attractions within their corridor to help curb the spread of Covid-19.

We will definitely update you with all of the latest travel details and information as they come in.
