The Dominican Republic Is Welcoming Visitors: No Covid Test, No Vaccine, No Quarantine…and Free Travel Insurance!

The Dominican Republic is lifting travel restrictions, making paradise a whole lot easier to visit. No pre-arrival covid tests are needed, guests will not need to quarantine after landing and no proof of vaccine will be asked for.

Is it still safe to visit this tropical nirvana? The DR’s tourism board says “yes!”

Prior to travelling to the Dominican Republic, visitors will complete an electronic entry and exit form. The e-document will act as an all-in-one health affidavit, customs declaration and international embarkation/disembarkation form.

Air and seaports, as well as road boarders between the DR and Haiti will now perform random breath tests to somewhere between 3 and 15% of all arriving passengers. The breath test will be performed on any visitor displaying virus symptoms and they will be quarantined along with anyone who tests positive for the virus during the breath test.

Coronavirus breathalyzers have been in development and testing since early 2020 and experts from many countries say they have a 90% or higher accuracy in discovering the presence of Coronavirus in an exhaled breath. In April this year the device became operational in The Netherlands and is key as the country prepares for the Eurovision Song Contest 2021 in May.

While there is currently a curfew in place in the Dominican Republic- Monday through Friday from 10 pm to 5 am, and Saturday and Sunday from 9 pm to 5 am, the country is offering a range of incentives to get visitors back to their beaches, mountains and resorts.

For travelers arriving by air and staying at a hotel, a free health insurance plan will be provided, just in case a visitor contracts Covid during their time on the island.

Viral antigen and PCR testing will also be offered at select hotels for any international guests who requires the result to re-enter their country. The testing will be offered for a small administration fee.

As for the curfew (currently in place until at least May 16) free transit will be between provided to ensure tourists return to their hotels. Guests will be allowed to move freely within their resort just as long as they do not leave the property during the curfew hours. Sounds fair to us!
