Gov. David Ige has been planning to loosen the tight restrictions within his multi-island state for well over a month now. With the state’s latest vaccination goal of 60% of all Hawaiians fully vaccinated anticipated to be met on July 8, Hawaii will be much easier for mainland Americans to enjoy.
If all goes to the vaccination quota plan, vaccinated out-of-state visitors from the U.S. who have allowed the minimum of two weeks to pass after their final shot will be able to bypass Hawaii‘s current sanctions- either show proof of a Hawaii state-approved negative Covid test taken with 72 hours of arrival on their tropical shores or quarantine for 10 days upon arrival.
Both of these mandates will be a thing of the past if a guest uploads their vaccination record to Hawaii’s Safe Travels website and arrive with a hard copy of their CDC-provided vaccination card.
Hawaii is only 10% away from a vaccination rate that would see all Covid restrictions removed and the state can return back to its pre-pandemic normal. At a 70 percent vaccination rate, Ige promises that the Safe Travels program will end, and “we will invite everyone to be able to travel to our islands.”
It seems international visitors will still require a negative Covid-19 Nucleic Acid Amplification Test (NAAT) from a trusted testing and travel partner taken within 72 hours of departing for Hawaii or to abide by the 10-day quarantine. It may be best to wait until the 70% vaccination rate has been reached before booking your island getaway from countries outside of the USA.
