In a bid to make sure that everyone is kept sound and safe at all times while visiting their country, The Bahamas has announced that all eligible cruise passengers must now be vaccinated in order to visit. In fact, there’s a new report that says the Prime Minister of the Bahamas has signed a new order by using his emergency powers to require all passenger cruises to show proof of their vaccination status. Here’s what you need to know.
The Bahamas Now Requires All Eligible Cruise Passengers To Be Fully Vaccinated
In order to enter a port, passengers above the age of 12 must be fully vaccinated. The new restrictions will go into effect beginning September 3rd and will run through November 1st, or until the COVID-19 situation in the country needs to be reassessed again.
With that said, there are some exceptions. The rule does not apply to the crew, contractors, and any “non-revenue passenger” under the protocol previously agreed upon between the government and cruise lines. The rule is also moot when a cruise ship is attempting to enter the port in an emergency and when a passenger has a medical reason as to why they are unvaccinated.
There were 118 new COVID-19 cases confirmed last Friday, taking the number of cases in the country to 15,537, with 2,295 active cases. In addition, health officials in The Bahamas have also confirmed nine COVID-related deaths between July 20 and August 3, bringing the number of COVID deaths in the country to 304, with another 35 under investigation. In the U.S. the highly transmissible strain of COVID which is known as the Delta variant is accounting for most new cases, which soared nationwide over the past two months.
