Lightning Lane Signage Is Up At Walt Disney World

Lightning Lane Signage Is Up At Walt Disney WorldAnd so it begins! There are new reports that say Lightning Lane signage is now up at Walt Disney World. While a lot of people don’t seem to be very pleased with the news that the new Genie+ app along with the Lightning Lane feature will be replacing FastPass at both Walt Disney World and Disneyland in California, it seems like it’s all speed ahead for it, despite many grumblings from Disney fans on both sides of the country. Here’s what you need to know.

Lightning Lane Signage Is Up At Walt Disney World

Reports say that Lightning Lane signs are popping up all over Disney, including at Hollywood Studios’ Toy Story Mania and Living With The Land in Epcot. Just last month Disney announced that new ‘Genie’ app that is designed to help guests skip the line with more ease and efficacy. The only problem with that though is you’ll have to pay a pretty penny for it. It is designed to help “maximize your park time, so you can have more fun,” according to the company. In other words, it wants to help you avoid all of the long lines at the theme parks but at the same time, is asking you to pay a little extra for it.

Unfortunately, Disney Genie will not grant guests access to shorter lines like the FastPasses previously included with the price of admission. Instead, guests will have to pay for that perk through two new services: Disney Genie+ and Lightning Lanes. The app also has the ability to create custom itineraries for guests.

What’s more, not everyone seems to be on board with this new feature. Many people are upset that they have to now pay for a service that was once free – and on top of Disney’s already sky-high ticket prices. The app has already been heavily downvoted on YouTube. Some comments from disgruntled Disney fans include, “I am almost 50 years old. Disney has been our family’s treasured vacation since I was 3 years old. Now I’m done. This is sickening. Chapek et al has managed to rob all the magic,” along with, “No more magical express, no more magic band, no more free Fastpass, no more Disney for me and my family. The cost of everything piles up for a family of four. It was fun while it lasted.”

Another critic wrote: “Ya, NOPE. No way we are paying for this. DVC members 10+ years and Passholders. This is a disgrace. I’m all for add-ons but it is NOT exciting to pay for a service we all enjoyed for years for free. “Great news, we’re raising prices and removing services you’ve had for years to make you pay more money.”
