It has been 19 long months that Castaway Creek, Humunga Kowabunga, Crush ‘n’ Gusher, and Mayday Falls at Typhoon Lagoon have laid dormant, not one swimmer in the Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool, but rumor has it Disney’s beloved water park is in the very infantile stages of reopening!
Along with the rest of the Walt Disney World Resort, Typhoon Lagoon shuttered its doors at the beginning of the pandemic, all the way back in March of 2020. While Blizzard Beach reopened the following March, it is currently the only Walt Disney Resort water park to be back in operation.
Fans began to wonder about Typhoon Lagoon’s future when the water park was removed from some of Walt Disney World Resort’s marketing material. However, to waterpark lovers’ relief, it was later revealed Typhoon Lagoon has been going through a major refurbishment throughout its lengthy closure.
The Surf Pool has had some major maintenance and facelifts happen and an extensive repair occurred backstage in an area behind the park that suffered a partial hillside collapse.
Now sources are saying they have witnessed the pools being refilled while cast members are returning to prepare the shops, restaurants and public spaces for guests to enjoy them once again!
Though both Typhoon Lagoon Surf Pool and Castaway Creek have been revealed to be filled again from aerial shots, Disney has not made an announcement as to when the park will be welcoming guests back. It is expected that more information will be coming to Disney’s official site soon.
