Well, this should sound familiar. There’s a new report that says Belize – along with many other countries around the world – is no longer just recognizing vaccinated tourists, as everyone must get tested before entering the country. Here’s what you need to know.
Here’s What You Need To Know Before Traveling To Belize
Beginning Monday, August 9th, Belize will no longer be making exceptions for vaccinated passengers to skip testing before traveling to the country. Instead, every single passenger must present a negative Covid-0 test from all arrivals, regardless of what their vaccination status is.
Reports say that travelers entering Belize at the Philip Goldson International Airport (PGIA) will be required to present a negative Covid-19 PCR test taken within 96 hours of travel. That, or they must present a negative result from any approved Antigen Rapid Test taken within 48 hours of travel. If a test is not presented, then a Covid-10 test will be administered for a fee of $50 per passenger at the airport.
Clearly, the country is doing everything it can to keep Covid-19 cases low while also making sure that the tourism industry doesn’t bottom out again like it did in 2020 during the worldwide lockdown.
Meanwhile, the situation is certainly getting worse than better in the United States, as the country is now averaging 100,000 new Covid-19 cases per day because of the rapidly spreading Delta variant. It took the U.S. about nine months to cross the 100,000 average case number in November before peaking at about 250,000 in early January. Cases bottomed out in June but took about six weeks to go back above 100,000, despite a vaccine that has been given to more than 70% of the adult population.
