Our British friends from across the pond will have to wait just a little bit longer before they are able to come to visit us on American soil. That’s because there are new reports that say the U.S. government will most likely wait before reopening its borders to British travelers. Here’s what you need to know.
The U.S. Will Most Likely Wait Before Opening Its Borders To U.K. Travelers
While the United States is planning to ease restrictions on travel by foreign nationals who are fully vaccinated, it seems like the U.K. might not make it onto its green list just yet. Reports say that talks between the United States and the United Kingdom have broken down in recent days, suggesting that the U.S. might wait before letting British travelers into its country.
Back in November, the U.S. announced that it would lift its travel ban on E.U. member states. Vaccinated travelers will have to test negative for the virus within three days of departure. Fully vaccinated passengers will not be subject to any quarantine mandates upon their arrival. White House Press Secretary Jen Psaki said that the pending new rules came after a review from interagency working groups and with other countries. “The older rules were not equitable in our view. They were a bit confusing. This was an effort to pursue that,” she said.
In addition, the Centers for Disease Control also will require that airlines gather information from international travelers to enable contract tracing if needed.
With that said though, Britain has dropped its advice against all but essential travel for 32 countries and territories. This change will allow people to travel more easily to destinations such as Algeria, Malaysia, and Senegal as many travel insurance firms exclude cover for places where the government advises against travel, the foreign ministry said.
