Khao Lak features a stretch of gorgeous beaches along its Andaman Sea coastline, all backed by jungle-covered mountains. The area has many resorts and visitor facilities ideal for the family.

What family attractions does Khao Lak offer?

Among the region’s attractions are, naturally, the beautiful beaches, but also many beautiful and uncrowded parks. The region offers largely unspoiled nature, giving access to great water sports, like off-shore diving. What is truly attractive is that the region supports western tourism, but not at the expense of local culture or the Thai way of life.

The region is not suitable for those looking for exotic and lively nightlife and is relatively quiet during the low season from April to November. However, it is perfect for family getaways, nature lovers and those who want to enjoy peace and quiet.

Meanwhile, the center of the Khao Lak region lies 23 mi (37 km) north of the Sarasin Bridge and the gateway to Ko Phuket. The region is convenient to Phuket International Airport, at a distance of 47 mi (76 km), while it is 66 mi (106 km) north of Phuket City.

Tourist-oriented villages

The region consists of the following population areas: Bang La On, Bang Niang and Khuk Khak, with Bang La On the most tourist-oriented in the region. The village has a number of restaurants, bars, banks and shops, including a souvenir shop, massage parlor and a dive shop.

Bang Niang is also tourist orientated and has more of a beach vibe. The town features restaurants, bars, hotels, massage parlors, clothing and souvenir shops on the road to the ocean. Meanwhile, the village hosts the region’s major nightlife options, with a number of popular clubs, bars and discos on offer.

As for Khuk Khak, this is a more traditional Thai village. For this reason,it is not quite so oriented towards travel and tourism. However, it is worth the visit to get a feel of the local community and its customs.
