Disney Cruise Line To Call A New Florida Homeport Home!

Disney Cruise Line is contemplating a change, calling Fort Lauderdale’s Port Everglades a year-round home for one of their ships.

Disney Cruise Ships regularly port at Port Canaveral year round with their private ship port shuttling hundreds of thousands of guests on board the Magic, Wonder, Dream and Fantasy each year.

Disney has also called into several different seasonal home ports for the small fleet including Port of Miami, FL, Vancouver, Canada (for the Alaskan itineraries) Civitivecchia (Rome), Italy (for Mediterranean itineraries) and New Orleans, LA- to name but a few.

Other than calling into Port Everglades due to inclement weather, it will also be a first for a Disney ship to sail from the Fort Lauderdale based port.

Currently DCL is awaiting approval from Broward county however Jonathan Daniels, chief executive and port director at Port Everglades, is excited by the prospect and happy to be able to offer a diversified portfolio of ships for guests to board in his port. Along with generating new jobs and tourism for Broward County, Daniels said that having a majestic Disney Ship in port will “create a little more magic for our guests and the community.”

The deal between Disney Cruise Line and Broward County will be discussed at the county commission meeting on May 18.

Also in a first, The Disney Magic will be sailing from several U.K homeports for “Staycations”- inherently cruises to nowhere in the summer of 2021. These are available for UK passengers only and were planned as the CDC’s conditional sail ban looked to stop all ships sailing from the U.S. for an indefinite amount of time.

Disney is offering “Magic at Sea” staycations for UK residents.

Disney Cruise Line’s newest ship, the Disney Wish will launch in 2022. The Wish will call Port Canaveral home as she sails 3 and 4 day cruises to the Bahamas including a call at Disney’s private island, Castaway Cay.
