Disney BoardWalk fans are hearing rumblings that their favorite sustainable seafood and prime steak restaurant- Flying Fish may be opening up again soon.
‘Soon’ has been whittled down to ‘September’, but that’s as specific as the rumor gets. However, that’s enough to garner excitement for those who’ve been missing the BoardWalk staple since its closure in March 2020.
The last time the Flying Fish Cafe, which first opened in 1996 only a few months after opening of the BoardWalk was closed for any period of time was back in January of 2016. The then 20 year old restaurant underwent some fabulous and lengthy refurbishments, including dropping the ‘café’ from its name, reopening to guests that August.
If Flying Fish does reopen in September as per rumor, it would have been one and a half years since guests were able to indulge in dishes like Hokkaido scallops, Sardinian seafood pasta, and char-crusted New York strip, all prepared by chefs bustling about an open kitchen under the watchful eye of the diners.
While this vague and unconfirmed date of ‘September’ isn’t too far off, guests visiting the BoardWalk and looking for some nosh in August still have several choices.
Currently open at Disney’s BoardWalk is casual American dining Big River Grille & Brewing Works and casual Italian dining restaurant, Trattoria al Forno
The counter service Pizza Window, BoardWalk Bakery and BoardWalk Icecream are all serving up delights for guests along with BoardWalk Joe’s Marvelous Margaritas and AbracadaBar
An opening date for the sports- themed dining restaurant ESPN Club, Funnel Cake Cart and the To-Go Cart are all highly anticipated.

FLying Fish Cafe was a beautiful whimsically-decorated restaurant; very unique. No wonder it closed after they refurbished it into a dark gloomy restaurant and changed some of the food. The steaks with sauce foyot were the best! Great wine list and great wait staff (Bob). Mussels were excellent. I hope they are going back to the old decor and menu if they open it again; someone sure screwed up.
