Singapore’s Covid-19 Phase 2 Heightened Alert Is Affecting Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas

Singapore recently went into Phase 2 Heightened Alert when an outbreak of Covid occurred on the island. Though ships like Royal Caribbean’s Quantum of the Seas have been sailing from Singapore since late 2020, the new alert has put a chink in the already strong armor, i.e. health and safety protocols that have been put in place.

Already capacity has been reduced for each sailing, that number is now down to 25% occupancy and a maximum of only two people can be booked into any cabin

Royal Caribbean Quantum of the Seas Enhanced ProtocolsPrior to the newest protocols, guests eating in the restaurants were seated a minimum of two meters apart from the next party and buffet lines were slowed as a crew member was required to serve.

Now all restaurants on board have closed their seating with take away available and room service offering full dining room menus.

Capacity for live entertainment shows will be reduced to a maximum of 50 guests and live singing will not be available. This was not elaborated on when it came to what this means for the full production shows usually held in the main theatres.

Many onboard activities will continue to operate but at a reduced capacity and with even more enhanced social distancing measures but government guidelines require a suspension of outdoor sports, exercise activities or any activities without face-masks.

It was also announced that masks will be required in the indoor pool.

What do you think of all of these heightened protocols; too much or just enough? Would you still cruise or cancel?

Honestly, these measures do seem extreme, however they may be necessary. After all, we don’t want a repeat of what happened at the very beginning of the pandemic and for cruising to be shut down for another 15 months.
