The CDC Raises Travel Advisory For The U.K. To A Level 4

The CDC Raises Travel Advisory For The U.K. To A Level 4You might want to press the pause button before buying your tickets to London this summer. That’s because both the state department and the CDC is urging everyone to avoid travel to the UK as Covid-19 cases across the pond are on the rise. Here’s what you need to know.

The CDC Raises Travel Advisory For The U.K. To A Level 4

The CDC raised the travel advisory for the U.K. to Level 4, which means everyone should avoid travel because of the very high level of Covid-19 cases. Previously, the alert had been at level 3, which advised travelers to be fully vaccinated before travel to the U.K. and recommended that unvaccinated travelers avoid nonessential travel. The U.K. travel alert has been at level 3 since May.

“Because of the current situation in the United Kingdom, even fully vaccinated travelers may be at risk for getting and spreading COVID-19 variants,” the CDC said in its most update while the State Department said: “Do not travel to the United Kingdom due to COVID-19.”

COVID-19 cases are rising by more than 50,000 a day in the UK and hundreds of thousands of Britons are being asked to self-isolate for 10 days

Meanwhile, reports say that European governments are growing rather frustrated with the Biden administration for refusing to lift the travel rules that prevent most of their citizens from traveling to the United States. Many of them have cited inconsistent rules, economic costs, and an outdated strategy for halting the coronavirus.

If that weren’t enough, diplomats also say that the Biden administration has given no indication when it might reverse the rules banning travel from the 26-nation Schengen zone.

Biden said last week he hopes to be able to announce “in the next several days” when travel between the US and much of Europe will resume.
