Royal Caribbean Now Offering Pre-Cruise Covid Testing at Select Floridian Home Ports

Unvaccinated Passengers On Royal Caribbean Cruises In Florida Will Face RestrictionsRoyal Caribbean Cruise Line is making traveling on one of their luxury liners just a little easier in the time of a pandemic by now offering in-port, pre-cruise testing for their passengers.

Select RCCL homeports in Florida will be equipped to provide PCR testing for cruisers up to 48 hours before their scheduled voyage, which is aligned with Royal Caribbean’s new mandates.

Previously, RCCL required all guests 12 and older to provide a negative PCR test taken 72 hours prior to cruising. This has been whittled down to 48 hours.

The reduced time to 48 hours raised timing concerns amongst many travelers and so RCCL is attempting to lend a helping hand by offering appointments for those in the areas of Port Canaveral (where guests will embark on Allure and Mariner of the Seas), PortMiami (where guests will join Freedom and Symphony of the Seas) and the Port of Tampa (where Serenade of the Seas currently ports).

Port miamiThe pre-cruise PCR test will cost travelers US$105 each and is not covered by the cruise line or insurance. Reservations for appointments must be made.

Travelers looking to take advantage of Royal Caribbean’s updated testing options can make their reservation within the 48 hour time frame all the way up until 30 minutes before their scheduled check-in time.

Guests under 12 receive a complimentary in-port test before embarkation.

Royal Caribbean CEO Says CDC Is Going Grant Cruise Lines Permission to Sail Again SoonRoyal Caribbean will soon also be introducing Tracelets-contact tracing wearable devices for onboard their ships.  Working with Tracesafe who will manufacture the exclusive wearable tech, the line will much easier be able to identify passengers or crew who have come in close contact with other passengers or crew who test positive for COVID-19.

The “Tracelet” was implemented onboard Quantum of the Seas in October of 2020, ready when it resumes sailings from Singapore in December 2020.
