Captain Minnie Mouse Coming to the new Disney Wish as Disney Cruise Line Suspends US Sailings Through June 2021

All sailings on the Disney Dream, Fantasy and Wonder will continue to be put on hold as Disney Cruise Line and all other U.S. based lines struggle to adhere to the CDC’s recently released guidelines to set sail again. Additionally, The Disney Magic has had its European season cancelled through Sept. 18, 2021.

The only exception is when the Magic sails from the United Kingdom. These short summer journeys will be limited to UK residents and are pending the UK ‘no sail’ ban being lifted. This is expected to happen as of May 17, 2021.

Any Canadian itineraries have been shelved until at least Feb. 28, 2022 as per Transport Canada’s rule. This greatly affects The Disney Wonder’s planned Alaskan season. DCL is currently looking into “options” for these Alaskan summer sailings and have promised to reach out to booked guests with information as soon as a decision is made.

However, as DCL announces the disappointing news, Captain Minnie Mouse is making an announcement of her own. The Disney Wish, the fifth ship to join the DCL fleet has reached a significant construction milestone. Today marked the traditional keel laying ceremony which revealed Captain Minnie’s very own portrait which will decorate the bow of the brand new Wish.

Cruise Director, Ashley Long revealed a shipbuilding tradition, telling those who are eager to see The Wish join her older sisters, “During a ship’s construction, when the first block, or section of a ship, is lowered into the building dock, a newly minted coin is placed under the keel for good fortune. The coin created for the Disney Wish features none other than … you guessed it, Captain Minnie!”

Captain Minnie first donned her bold red jacket in 2019 and now, with Captain Minnie helming the Disney Wish, Disney, and Minnie, hope to inspire the next generation of female leaders in the cruise industry.

While all four previous ships, The Wonder, Magic, Dream and Fantasy have been emblazoned with intricate filigree scrollwork surrounding a portrait of Micky Mouse, this time there will be a little girl power on display when the ships pull into port.

Oh, and as the wish pulls out, the stern of The Wish will also feature one of Disney’s powerful women- Rapunzel! This is also a first as previous character’s embellishing the stern of the 1920’s inspired ships, Donald and his nephew Huey, Goofy, Mickey and Dumbo.
