The CDC Eases Mask Use For Vaccinated People. Will Walt Disney World Follow Recommendations?

Those who have been vaccinated can all breathe a little but easier now, but as long as you are outdoors. That’s because the CDC has just unveiled new mask guidance for fully vaccinated Americans and yes, it might impact your summer plans. Here’s what you need to know.

The CDC Eases Mask Use For Vaccinated People – Here’s What You Need To Know

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (or the CDC, as we have all commonly referred to it this past year), detailed the activities that vaccinated people can safely resume, which include attending small outdoor gatherings without having to wear a mask.

“Today, I hope, is a day when we can take another step back to the normalcy of before,” CDC Director Dr. Rochelle Walensky said. “Over the past year, we have spent a lot of time telling Americans what you can’t do. Today, I am going to tell you some of the things you can do, if you are fully vaccinated.”

For the past year the CDC had recommended that everyone wear a mask and stay at least six feet away from other people in their party, and even while outdoors.

In addition, Walensky said the decision was driven by the number of people who are getting vaccinated on a daily basis. That’s the good news. With that said, the federal health agency says even if you’ve been vaccinated, you should avoid large gatherings, with or without your mask on. The CDC did not define how many people would be in a large gathering, but the agency’s website describes “large gatherings” as bringing together “many people from multiple households in a private or public space.”

And if you are fully vaccinated and choose to attend an event like a live performance or a parade, the CDC says that you need to keep that mask on.

“Generally, for vaccinated people, outdoor activities without a mask are safe. However, we continue to recommend masking in crowded outdoor settings and venues, such as packed stadiums and concerts where there is decreased ability to maintain physical distance and where many unvaccinated people may also be present,” Walensky said. “We will continue to recommend this until widespread vaccination is achieved.”

The CDC also advises both vaccinated and unvaccinated people to still wear masks in indoor public spaces, such as a mall, movie theater or museum.

So, in other words, people and especially travelers should just keep on doing what they are doing, and that’s staying as healthy and as safe as possible.
